• Dr. James N. Thacker

  After a wonderful experience with a friendly orthodontist as a child, Dr. Jim Thacker knew he wanted to be able to provide that kind of personable, individualized care himself some day. His commitment to creating healthy, beautiful smiles that last a lifetime began a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio State University in 1978, followed by his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1982. Upon completion of a two-year graduate residency, he was awarded his degree in Orthodontics from Boston University in 1984. In 1986, Dr. Jim opened his own orthodontic practice in Mt. Lookout. Shortly thereafter, he opened a second office in Anderson Township to meet the growing needs of his patients, and in 1991, he expanded his Cincinnati practice to its current location in Anderson Township. In 2003, Dr. Jim opened an additional office in Hillsboro, Ohio, to better serve the community and his patients. In 2006, the Anderson location was awarded the Anderson Township Beautification Award for Small Businesses. Having these two state-of-the-art facilities allows Dr. Jim and his staff to provide care to patients on a much more convenient basis! Outside of his practice, Dr. Jim is a member of The American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Cincinnati Dental Society, Great Lakes Society of Orthodontists, the North Atlantic Angle Orthodontic Society, as well as the Eastside Study Group of Cincinnati. In 2001, Dr. Jim was accredited as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. This distinguishment is reserved for an Orthodontic Specialist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty. Dr. Jim has also been on faculty at the University of Kentucky Dental School, Vanderbilt University's Medical Center Orthodontic Program, and the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Jim is a certified Invisalign provider, and also specializes in interdisciplinary adult care. He is able to offer his patients the highest quality care using the most up-to-date products and technology available. The Thacker Orthodontics team are happy to be able to provide orthodontic treatment in a friendly and caring environment that respects all patients and their families! Dr. Jim’s practice offers a highly trained staff with many years of experience in the dental and medical fields continually educates and trains his staff in the evolving field of orthodontics and patient care certifies all staff members in CPR/AED emergency procedures employs a full-time Registered Dental Hygienist complies with all OSHA requirements complies with all HIPPA rules and regulations OUTSIDE THE OFFICE Beyond orthodontics, Dr. Jim and his wife love exploring Cincinnati by hiking or biking trails. Although they’ve lived here since 1984, they find there’s still plenty of new things to discover! Along with his family, he enjoys other outdoor activities, such as water and snow skiing, snow boarding, wake boarding, biking, and gardening. In his free time, Dr. Jim also likes attending sporting events, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with his wonderful friends and family.

• Dr. MaryEvan Thacker

  A native of Cincinnati, Dr. MaryEvan always wanted to be a doctor. After becoming interested in orthodontics at a young age, she worked as a chairside technician at Thacker Orthodontics during the summer throughout her high school and college years, and joined the team full time as an orthodontist in 2017. After graduating from Saint Ursula Academy in 2005, Dr. MaryEvan attended Vanderbilt University to earn her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009, majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Medicine, Health, and Society. Moving on from Nashville, Dr. MaryEvan next attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude and third in her class. While there, she was elected to membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Honor Dental Society, for her exceptional academic performance. During dental school, Dr. MaryEvan received many awards, including: American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Outstanding Senior Award American Dental Society of Anesthesiology Horace Wells Senior Student Award Professor Leonard C. Waite Outstanding Performance Award: Pharmacology and Dental Therapeutics Top 10% in Basic Sciences: Microbiology, Pharmacology Membership to The Delphi Society for outstanding academic performance and professional interest in biodental sciences In 2014, Dr. MaryEvan completed a one year Craniofacial Biology program at the University of Kentucky in their Department of Orthodontics. During this time, she and Dr. Jim Thacker worked together researching the clinical significance of mandibular dental arch expansion using an E-Arch appliance in the mixed dentition. Dr. MaryEvan recently completed her three year orthodontic residency training at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (where Dr. Jim Thacker also received his orthodontic training!) She graduated with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Orthodontics, and a Masters of Science in Dentistry from Boston University. As an orthodontist, Dr. MaryEvan loves having the ability to create positive change in her patients’ lives by giving them a beautiful, healthier smile. She knows that orthodontic treatment can be challenging, whether you’re a tween, teen, or adult, and it’s important to her that each patient feels welcomed, understood, and part of a team. It’s exciting for her to come to work each day knowing she’ll be working with her patients towards the end goal of a great smile. OUTSIDE THE OFFICE Outside of orthodontics, Dr. MaryEvan loves all things outdoors. She and her husband enjoy exploring with their dogs, hiking, biking, waterskiing, and paddle boarding. They spend lots of time at the lake in the summer, and strap on snowboards and snowshoes in the winter. In her free time, she also attends pilates, spinning, barre, and other fitness classes to keep her healthy and fit for sprinting around the office every day. Dr. MaryEvan is looking forward to building a new life together with her husband here in Cincinnati.
